Due to good yield of potatoes in other districts including Munshiganj at different times, many potatoes were lost due to cold-storage crisis in different areas. Then again the cost of farming has increased several times as the prices of fertilizer, pesticide and other inputs have gone up. However, there are ways to cultivate this crop by reducing costs. It will be very cheap for the farmers, as well as many fallow land will also come under cultivation.

South of Jowar, the soil takes a long time to dry after harvesting the Aman paddy, which makes it difficult to cultivate potatoes at the right time. Yields also decrease due to late sowing. Therefore, farmers can cultivate potatoes without plowing in low-lying areas and late rains. The cost of cultivation in this way is very low because hyacinth is used beneficially, it is used as a mulching product, soil sap is always stored, irrigation cost is kept to a minimum, very little Chemical fertilizer is required, weeds are less in the soil, potato is more tasty. And its size is also very large.

Thus, for potato cultivation, land should be selected where water does not freeze when it rains. Potato planting is usually done as soon as the land is vacant after harvesting high yields and local varieties of paddy. A nearby river or pond should have a source of hyacinth. The end of November is the best time for potato cultivation. However, by December 10 it is possible to plant potatoes in the way of birana cultivation.

Seed management

Authorized varieties stored in cold storage such as coldin, diamond etc. can be used. 7-8 kg of seed will be required per century. Small potatoes weighing 25–30 grams, or large chopped potatoes with at least two eyes, are best for potato seeds. Ash can be applied to the severed portion. These seeds should be treated with approved fungicides (eg Bavistin or Dithin M-45) before planting. Each seed should be placed 20 inches in rows and 10 inches apart with finger pressure. If the soil is slightly hard, the hand cord should be pulled to a depth of 10 cm and covered with soil.

Fertilizer management

Before sowing, 1.3 kg of urea and half kg of TSP should be applied to the percentage. On the day before sowing, potash and dung manure should be mixed together and sprayed on the ground. In case of application of fertilizers, it should be kept in mind that no chemical fertilizer should be applied to the seeds.

Colic

Water hyacinth, straw, straw etc. can be used as a cover. When the hyacinth is drained from a river or canal and dried and dried, it is good as a mantle. Attacking mice can be increased by using straw or straw as a cover. The seeded potato should be covered 4-6 inches thick immediately after planting. If the seeds do not completely cover the potato, green melanin spots appear on the potato which are harmful to the human body. Then, if the cover is too high, the tree will have problems to come out.

Disease

Pests are planted by bites and damage crops. These insects hide under the ground during the day. If the infection of these insects is not very high, the soil should be dug near the cut tree and the insects should collect and kill. If the infection is more, then Chloropyriphos (Dursban) 20 EC should be mixed at a rate of 5 ml and the roots and soil of the plant should be trimmed and soaked. This should be done 30-40 days after planting. Twine worms make long tunnels in the potatoes stored in the house. Later it spread to other potatoes. Therefore, when storing potatoes at home, they should be covered with ash, husk or wood powder. Infected potatoes should be sorted and left before storage. Jabpoka suck the bark of the tree and spread the virus. Malathion 56 EC should be mixed with 10 ml 10 liters of water and sprayed every 7 days. Urchunga comes out of the hole at night and eats the roots and trunks of the tree. The pests should be killed using a bait or by removing them from the hole.

In the case of late blight or potato plague, small wet spots first appear on leaves, tips and stems. In the fall it grows and spreads throughout the tree. If the relative humidity of the air is high, the disease spreads throughout the region in 2-3 days. The affected farm has a burning smell as if the crop has been burnt. For remedy, balanced fertilizer and timely irrigation should be applied. As soon as the disease occurs, Roverl or Dithene M-45 should be mixed with 20 grams of 10 liters of water and sprayed continuously for 8-10 days.

In this way, it is possible to grow 25-30 tonnes of potatoes per hectare against diseases. And the cost of potato cultivation naturally becomes difficult for the farmer. And if potato cultivation is done this way without cultivation, then the cost of farming becomes about three-fourths.
